#longboardsessions
On a recent trip to Transkei, there was alot of time where we could discuss life, our futures and how Christ forms the center of it all. Yeshua should be the reason for our actions and our motivation that keeps us going. Here myself and Rohan from Somerset West is busy chatting about life and life in abundance…

About two months ago I stated training six women how to sew. It was something that I have been longing to get back into since working for Invisible Children Mend. That experience changed my life. The adventure to Uganda that allowed me to use my gifts for a greater purpose than for me- I got to serve the orphan and widow. It was at the MEND project that I met women that had been abducted by a rebel army, made into sex slaves, impregnated, and escaped in hope for a better future. These women found Invisible Children. They found hope in a project that gave them back their dignity and allowed them to understand their worth again.
That is my hope with THEMBA INTERNATIONAL. I want women all over the world, that are found in impoverished situations to find hope in Christ and become the person He has made them to be. We are called to be sisters & brothers to the poor, to the needy, to the distressed, and abandoned. We are called to not be silent and not sit still…We must get to work.
After two years of living in South Africa, God gave me a group of six women. These ladies were found through various Christian outreaches throughout Jeffery’s Bay. They are all in need of hope. I believe that God has brought them across my path to take care of them. To give back what the Lord has graciously given me. I am teaching them to sew. In hopes of eventually giving them jobs. I want to see them flourish as the women of God they are. I want to see them enjoy life and life in abundance…That is what we have in Christ and that is what they deserve.
As I have been working with these ladies I have already seen many tears. Tears shed from not having food to feed their children, from fear of their bosses, from abuse of the church, and tears shed from hopelessness. This isn’t the way it should be….They deserve attention. They deserve HOPE. Themba is HOPE.
In the picture above is a lady named Victoria. She lives in a shack in the township of Tokyo Sexwale. She has two children that she struggles to provide for. Her dream when she met me was that she could learn how to sew traditional African clothes to sell to her local community. It is a goal of hers and we are slowly but surely getting there.
She made this pin pillow today and a smile emerged from her face as she realized she was improving. It is so warming to see something so small as a pin pillow bring so much joy to someone.
Meet our Aleph Surf & Aleph Creatives kids from Joshua Project. Most of these guys are street or township kids from JBay. They are a part of an organization called Joshua Project (JP).
The Joshua Project has been a safe haven for vulnerable children in Jeffreys Bay since 1998. At JP they receive love, support, education, and practical skills training.
The name Joshua means: ‘God saves’ and serves as a constant reminder to us that God alone can save the children at risk in our communities. We can only serve as a place of refuge where these children can come to receive acceptance and support in a caring environment provided by people who are passionate about kids and believe that they also should have hope for a better future.
Today the project owns a building containing offices, classrooms, a kitchen, ministry and child care rooms, ablution facilities and a skills development center. The children daily receive food, education, spiritual care and the opportunity to develop their skills.
There was a need for more activities to be added to their daily operations - that is why Aleph came alongside Joshua Project. We now provide recreation, surf, art and education through life skills to these youths. Aleph is amped about these talented young people and believe that some amazing artwork is on the way. Whether it is on a wave or on a canvas, it will be revealed soon…
